Graduating medical students who have been insured by the disability insurance policy provided by Harvard Medical School for at least 12 months are entitled to apply for disability income and student loan insurance without having to satisfy any medical underwriting requirements. Benefits from this coverage are designed to complement the benefits provided during your upcoming house staff program. Upon completion of house staff training, this coverage provides access to an individual disability insurance policy that can be maintained throughout your practice years.
To obtain the portable disability insurance policy, please complete this online request. Once completed, we will forward an enrollment package containing the physical application that you need to sign and return as well as a request for the initial premium. Please note that the application and the initial premium payment must be received by The Guardian, the insurance carrier that underwrites this program, no later than 30 days following your graduation.
If you’re under the age of 30, your quarterly rates are $39.99. If you are over the age of 29 but under the age of 35, your rates will be $46.05. For rates outside these age groups, please contact our office.
